After speaking with her oldest and dearest friend of 46 years, C. Diane Nathaniel, regarding Diane's courageous fight against Stage 3 colorectal cancer, Helen anguished about how she could 'help' her friend. What could a mere artist do to create change in a loved one's life afflicted with such devastation? Together Diane and Helen came up with a solution-BEAT STAGE 3. After hearing Diane anguish over the ravaging physical effects of chemotherapy it became apparent that there was a sense of loss of physical self-a loss that definitely affected self-esteem and self-confidence. Yet, there was no solid path back to beauty-inner or outer. Diane also realized on her journey back to health that less people were aware of how to prevent or test. The disease and its treatments had taken such a toll on Diane and it was time to give back what was lost. Finally it was time to apply the artistic knowledge and know how that Helen had worked so hard to perfect over the years.
In 2003 photography became much more than a hobby and began to surface as another viable creative outlet. Since then Helen has shot photos in over 13 countries from Prague to New Zealand and has amassed hundreds of subjects. Her work graces album covers; is regularly included in trade magazines; used for advertisements, marketing and artist promo, profiles and tour books; is included in coffee table photography and biographies.
Helen is currently planning her first photography exhibition in Los Angeles 2018. The exhibit will be dedicated to her deceased grandmother Hattie Simmons who raised her from birth and to her biological mother Joyce-Ann Simmons. On Sept 17, 2016 Joyce-Ann passed away from dual Stage 4 lung and colorectal cancers.
Alexis Williams attended the University of Southern Mississippi, majoring and minoring in Biological Sciences & Chemistry. She graduated in 2008, having had the pleasure of being the Vice President of the Biology Honor Society for most of her collegiate career. Alexis' ultimate goal is to create her very own cosmetic line which will incorporate her love of both the scientific world and the world of beauty.
Promoting natural beauty techniques that are simple to apply, long lasting Alexis plans to encourage holistic skin care. Alexis' future makeup line will also provide all women with a more diverse color palette range. These attributes are of particular importance to Alexis who is looking forward to marketing a full line of athletic makeup to female athletes who desire long lasting makeup minus the heavy buildup.
Alexis began her makeup artistry career in New Orleans working with local celebrities and bon vivants. Upon arriving in New York, Alexis quickly became the first assistant to world-renowned makeup artist Kabuki. While working with Kabuki, Alexis contributed her talent to many international advertising campaigns, as well as, images for Numero, W Magazine, Interview, Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE and VOGUE Italia, Japan, Germany and France.
Her indisputable talent and fashion drive has consistently set Alexis apart. She was an integral part of the creative teams of Peter Phillips, Global Creative Director of Chanel Cosmetics and Dior Beauty, and make-up visionary Dick Page.
In 2014 Alexis Williams joined C. Diane Nathaniel and Helen L. Collen as a crucial member of the BEAT STAGE 3 team. Initially meeting Helen on a photoshoot, the two became friends. Helen's introduction of Alexis to Diane soon sparked a friendship amongst the three women that was bound for creative and communal greatness. BEAT STAGE 3's first 'Fresh Starter' was C. Diane Nathaniel. A full professional photoshoot complete with Alexis' amazing makeup and cutting edge styling/photography by Helen L. Collen paved the way for what is now BS3'S 'Fresh Start' makeover program. The followup gallery event showcasing Diane's new and improved make-over via large size poster photography celebrated Diane Nathaniel's first chemo free year. Alexis' masterful makeup artistry along with Helen's vogue-styling was front and center. Diane was zenfully and beautifully transformed into the woman she knew herself to be. The best part was that Diane was also finally free from the thoughts of 'how' to get back to who she used to be. From that day on the female triad was sealed and BEAT STAGE 3's purpose was set.
